obtained International Centers of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery (ICE) designation in September 2009 and is the first ICE designated center in Asia Pacific area.
About International Centers of Excellence for Bariatric
Surgery designation
International Centers of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery (ICE) is a bariatric program that has been designated a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence (COE) by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) since 2007. Its goals and objects are to ensure that patients receive bariatric surgery care worldwide with the highest levels of efficacy, efficiency and safety and that the requirements for excellence are consensus, and to create an international platform for the improvement of bariatric surgery through international academic and research exchange in the world.
There have been 333 health care providers and 577 bariatric surgeons achieved ICE designation in United States. This designation is a basis of insurance payment for United States insurance companies and also is the standard for United States public to choose which one is the excellent and safe health care provider for bariatric surgery. Taiwan is the first country in the Asia Pacific area and the third in the world outside the United States to obtain ICE designation.
E-Da Hospital achieved Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation in November 2008 and is the first JCI accredited hospital in south Taiwan.
About Joint Commission International Accreditation
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, known more commonly by its acronym, JCAHO or as The Joint Commission, is an independent, not-for-profit organization which was founded in 1951. As the International division of Joint Commission Resources, Joint Commission International (JCI) has been working with health care organizations, ministries of health, and global organizations in over 80 countries since 1994.
Over 220 public and private health care organizations in 33 countries have been accredited by JCI. JCI provides accreditation for hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, clinical laboratories, care continuum services, medical transport organizations, and primary care services, as well as certification for disease or condition-specific care. Its standards were developed by international health care experts and set uniform, achievable expectations.
Its mission is to continuously improve the safety and quality of care in the international community through the provision of education and consultation services and international accreditation and certification.
E-Da Hospital passed Hospital Accreditation and Teaching Hospital Accreditation conducted by Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation in January 2008.
History of Hospital Accreditation in Taiwan
Taiwan is the fourth country that started the accreditation project in the world and the first one in Asia.
Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation which is sponsored by the Department of Health, the Executive Yuan launched on-site accreditations on district hospitals in 1999. Its mission is to continuously improve the safety and quality of care in Taiwan¨s hospitals through hospital accreditation.
In order to prove it has reached the international level of executing accreditation and improving healthcare quality, Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation passed the rigorous on-site survey and accreditation standards review conducted by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) in 2006 and 2007. It is the first certified accreditation organization in Asia.
