Foreword
As the old Chinese saying goes: ˇ°the heroes and leaders, snoring like thundersˇ±. But according to the recent medical reports on sleep disorders, the snoring is an alarm for the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). It could cause choking and awaking in the night, insomnia, nocturnal polyuria, gastroesophageal reflux, excessive daytime somnolence, poor concentration, reduction of memory, poor working performance, and in the long run, causing hypertension, coronary artery disease, and myocardial infarction or stroke. It is also closely related to the sexual dysfunction in men. The Sleep Disorders Center of our hospital can provide complete sleep study and accurate diagnosis and treatment for various kinds of sleep disorders.
Furthermore, the snoring and the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) can be treated with the ˇ°oral anti-snoring appliancesˇ±. The Sleep Disorders Center of our hospital is specialized in the research and development of the ˇ°anti-snoring appliancesˇ±, and had successfully treated more than 600 patients who suffered severe snoring problems, the averaged improvement of the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is reduction of 80% of the apnea-hypopnea index, and this results had brought attention to the medical professionals in Taiwan. The presentation had won the outstanding poster award at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the Taiwan Neurological Society, and was presented at the ˇ°2006 World Congress on Sleep Apneaˇ± on September 27, 2006, in Montreal, Canada. Recently the review of the total result of oral appliance therapy in obstructive sleep apnea patients in E-Da Hospital was presented in the 2009 World Congress on Sleep Apnea, held in Seoul, Korea

ˇ°The application of Modified Herbst Oral Appliance Treatment in Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS)ˇ± published in 2006 has won the price of outstanding poster award at 2006 Annual meeting of Taiwan Neurological Society.
